JTL Challenge/Ladder Rules
- During the season, random challenges or free challenges are encouraged. A "free" challenge is a player challenging anyone above him or her on the ladder. These challenges must be played prior to the first weekly league match.
- After the "free" challenge period has ended, players may then challenge only one or two positions above themselves on the ladder.
- A challenge game consists of a 6-game set for minors and an 8-game set for the majors.
- A verbal challenge must be accepted, scheduled, and played within one week of the initiation of the challenge. Failure to do so will result in a forfeit of the challenged player. The JTL coaches will be the arbitrators of ladder and challenge disputes.
- Players are encouraged to, but do not have to accept, more than one challenge in one week. Challenge matches are played in the order in which they are received.
- Results of challenge matches are reported to the coach or to the person in charge of the ladder by both players of the challenge match.
- As a result of the challenge match, a player defeating a player higher on the ladder assumes the defeated player’s position on the ladder.
- A player losing to a player lower on the ladder declines one position on the ladder.
- Ladders are set (frozen) on the Sunday night prior to the weekly scheduled league match.
- Ladder matches should continue through the entire league season.
- Challenge matches should not be played during the scheduled team practice times, based on court availability. Exceptions to this rule must be cleared through the JTL coaches.
